I emailed Congresswoman Anna Eshoo about Lina, and I received a reply saying that the are looking into it. Eshoo spoke with Mar Bawai Soro of the Church of the East in San Jose, and in a recent email, told me that all money received will be donated to the account on Lina's website. I am hoping Eshoo can come through with a medical NON-Assyrian organization that can help Lina out somehow--maybe by subsidizing the surgery and other medical bills.

Mar Bawai mentioned Lina in this past Sunday at church. (I got to church late so I didn't catch all of what he said). I'm not sure how much the church collected for Lina, but I know they are trying. I'm going to contact Mar Bawai myself to see what more can be done. Maybe get the Youth group involved?!!?!

Does anyone know the contacts for the other churches in the bay area? --the Catholic and Protestant churches?

Also, I spoke to Wilfred at Zinda about Lina, and he gave me the names of some people to contact. Jeff, according to Wilfred, the person you told me to contact will not help at all. I will try to anyway--you never know. I am going to get a hold of the Assyrian Aid Society to see if something can be done. If we do a fundraising event, I need someone to support it. My cousin and I are looking into using the Assyrian Civic Club in Turlock for a fundraiser and we're trying to get a singer too.

Oh, I contacted the Assyrian Medical Society and got mixed reviews from different people. No luck there so I'm moving on...

If anything else comes up, I'll let you know. IF anyone can offer more suggestions, PLEASE don't hesitate to tell me.

On a side note, when I met with Wilfred this past weekend, we talked about the Tamruz project. Its such a shame that with all the resources in this country, we, as Assyrians cannot establish an Assyrian Trust Fund for those is need--Lina and others. Just imagine what kind of money, 5% of each of our incomes can establish. Add interest on top of that and there'd be a heck of a lot of money. Just look at the Jews (granted our numbers are not as large as there's in the US, but still). If 5% is pushing it, then even 1 or 2%. Could Assyrians do it without questioning where every penny goes!!??!?!?! With churches and political groups aside, a fund could easily be established!!!! We have very little faith and confidence in each other that to this day, we have to scramble to find 150K for Lina...how sad.

Very Frustrated,

Nahrain
