My friend's guess was that if the guy/guys had been white, he'd/they'd have been shot dead on the spot when they were captured, with the excuse that he/they were armed. If the guy/guys was/were not white (esp. Mid Eastern), he'd/they'd be left alive & his/their stories made huge all over the news. In other words, these guys' stories can be used as a warning to anyone else who's not white, their stories played over & over again, like Wen Ho Lee's (only Lee was innocent... which doesn't matter b/c his reputation is now in complete ruins).
