++++Christianity appeals to slaves and to those who have no hope left...AND it appeals to those who own slaves and hope never to lose them. Unlike the Jews, who got thrashed every few years or so...we weren't used to thinking our God loved us best when he drove us to our knees. It must have been a cataclysmic shock to the Assyrians when Ashur seemed to fail them totally.
No, I think there are many elements in Eastern Chrisianity that are directly borrowed from 'pagan' Assyria, that survive to this day especially in the Jacobite tradition in Tur-Abdin for example.
++++There well may be...but who needs them...and name three of them that ever did anyone any good, AND that weren't around before. Christianity added the distinct promise that one day the poor and despised would rule the earth...sort of an extension to infinity of the Day of Misrule...the annual event in which master and slave traded places... has a certain charm and appeal to it...if you are absolutely bereft of any hope for a better life here and now...without having to be drawn out backwards through your own asshole first to "deserve" it.
+++And just as the Jews had little more than a pot to piss in till we took them away to finishing school...so too did the Arabs have very little in the way of culture. Islam, Judaism and Christianity owe the greater part of theire greatness to us.
