A frown of displeasure just won't do for you any longer. The tears you bring to a child's eyes won't phase you...you've got HELL dogging your footsteps...nothing less will scare you into decent behavior. You won't have a moral bone in your body left once you become a Christian...for you've just been excused from ever worrying about the mayhem you leave in your wake on earth...
>
>That's really wierd, Farid. We're told that every act we do - down to the last jot - has repercussions for eternity: "when you refused the littlest one a cup of water you refused me," and told about horrifying fires on the one hand and infinite happiness on the other - and that DULLS the conscience? Fear of hell makes one LESS worried about what he or she does on earth?

+++Of course it does. I'm beginning to see just how fucked up your lack of thinking is. What do you think a conscience is anyway...a blowtorch? Are you supposed to have it crammed up your arse before anything dawns on you about doing good vs not doing good? Fear of hell makes one ONLY fearfull of hell. Like I said...a simple, "please don't", won't do after that. The idea of having done wrong where there's no real punishment but what you should do to yourself...not god to you...will never take hold after that.

+++It's very simple to teach the Golden Rule to children..problem is you have to set the example and that's something your Corporate Church could never do. You're in the Glee Club section. What you laughingly call mopral education is nothing more than your own peculiar voodoo crap and it's intended to unhinge young minds and leave them soft and mushy enough for the State. You people work hand in hand and DON'T tell me about the pope's tears...okay? After a fullk course in confounded idiocy a child leaves you people ready to starbve Iraqi children and sleep well at night anyway. THAT'S what you're for...silly. We all know how to love or not long before you came along.

+++If you have to frighten or tempt a mind in order to get it to do what you say is the right thing anyway...then what have you just done? I can wait.

+++Would you want a surgeon to operate on that principle? That if you pay enough he'll do it and he'll be careful because the Lawyers will get him if he does "bad"? Of course that's the way it is with most people and I suppose you can take the credit if you want to. But I'd far prefer the surgeon who isn't interested in what's in it for him if he doeas a good job...that a job well done is it's OWN REWARD..aas goodness should be its own reward. You say people are weak and lazy so you need to goose them a little...I say that's bullshit because you get children started as if they were already lazy and weak headed...which is what YOU do to them because you tell it to them all wrong...you tell them to be good because of heaven and not be bad because of hell. If that isn't an infantile way to raise children I don't know what it is...but then you'll never be bothered by that either. In fact, your whole life's work is just too fantastical to have any meaning to people...so I suppose that must mean you've hit on the REAL thing. Sheesh. I am embarrassed for you.

>Let's go back and take the old bastard as an example. The Church has a good first step to push him toward his reform. "Why should I care what effect I have on the world? I'm gonna die anyway, so what's the difference to me?" That his actions will effect him forever is a starting point. There's more after reform is begun - there's love of God and neighbor - but that's the best starting point I can think of.

+++Thank you...you make my point nicely. I wouldn't teach that and I didn't. I've seen what mealy-mouthed things are made of young people who are "taught" in this way. You start with fear...and go to Love????? Do you know ANYTHING about human emotions? Do you know ANYTHING about love? The real thing not this warm piss you've been serving up as a passionate concoction...a love potion for guys who fuck children and say they're sorry after. By the way...how come your church doesn't send these fuckers to hell where they belong but protects them and hides them and shifts them around? Let me guess...they got it wrong too?

>>not unless there's no way out and for a Catholic especially, there's ALWAYS a way out.

>That's right, there's reform - and Reconciliation with God only after. "Faith without works has no power to save anyone." - Same old Jew book.

+++Same old Andy...noyt an original or sound idea in your head. Your kind has always been around...you were around the first campfirew where meat was being cooked for the first time and you flew into a rage at the idea that anything should be changed because, "we know all we need to already". You were also in the Sanhedrin, a promising young priest who counselled Jesus to think of how right and perfect everything was. You've made a religion and a god out of your own fear of Life and live tucked away in church rectums all around the earth...aand YOU are going to teach "LOve"...of all things. Have you no sense at all if not shame?
>
>>Likewise with immortality gift wrapped and under your tree. What does a smile from a hungry kid have to compare? When you've learned to "do right" because life eternal and everlasting joy is waiting for you...well damn...you're used to getting paid in REAL money...small change will hold no interest for you from that day on.
>
>But none of it IS small change - every single tiny act of kindness or of unkindness resounds throughout the universe for the Christian. Way to miss the point...again.

+++This from a guy who believes five unemployed Jews who died 2000 years ago. Way to GET the point.
