I asked what was UNIQUE to Christianity and Christ...not what Christ did...that everyone else did. The only thing that I see is the cannibalism thing...that and the idea that it`s okay and even holy to receive benefits that came your way ONLY through the murder of a totally innocent human being, for had Christ lived and died peaceably, no heaven for Paul Yonan..or Don. This is a new sort of religion on the world map...and while it worked great for the Romans..it`s been a disaster to everyone else. The civilized world fell into great disarray with the fall of the western Roman Empire. For all their murder and rapine, the Romans imposed a sort of peace which again allowed civilization to grow and develop. When the empire collpased, brigandage, insecurity, petty wars and warlords took over...the European world took a giant step backward...aided by the fact that the Church gradually became the Empire and clamped its iron fist over any sort of education or enlightenment or even scientific or technological advances...you may have heard of the Dark Ages. It took 1000 years for the Human mind to unravel itself from the coils of the church and begin the humanizing process all over again. It is said that the classic, pagan world collapsed because of Christianity and its baleful influence....people disgusted with the material world, as Rome determined it, were only too glad to check out and look to the skies instead...Christianity offered both an escape and a rationale for why you were so damn miserable..and what you had to do about it...which had nothing to do with building anything better HERE on earth...but getting rid of even the little you had to focus instead on a cloud somewhere with a Jew god who never met a kid he didn`t want to kill...go figure. But...very few people WILLINGLY converted to Christianity...even back then. The Romans didn`t even "convert" to Christianity...that`s another crock of shit. Not even the JEWS, fer chrissakes, converted...or very few of them did. It seems no one was much impressed by this religion...except for Constantine...who looked around him at the increasinglky shakey Empire of his...hemned in by eager barbarians ready to settle scores...and faced one of two choices...the old Roman character was long gone...Romans now paid others to do their work for them while they got fatter and sassier...there were too many unruly people to control...what Constantine needed was a new unifying force OR a rededication to the old ways...revisiting the past was impossible, so a new religion was needed, one that had the blessings of a new god, of course...but also one that would render his subjects more pliable and less demanding of the goodies of THIS earth...so the few wealthy could go on sucking everyone dry... The people of Rome were FORCED into Christianity by the Emperor and his hirelings..the people themselves didn`t burn down their pagan temples, the government did...and Constantine was NEVER a Christian himself...far from it. He thought this religion would calm the Roman soul a bit and allow him to rule more efficiently....but instead it gradualñly sapped the will of the people to do anything much on THIS earth...just as Christ told them not to. The Roman strength of character was gone...and Christianity was a poor substitute...as it was for whatever remained of the Assyrians. Christianity was dreamed up by a subject people...it is a fitting religion for slaves and peasants. The only place where Christianity has boomed and blasted is in the West...and that`s because it`s hypocrisy is so clearly revealed...and it can go about the old murderous business unhindered by itself. In the East it has been a disaster...because people REALLY tried to follow the teachings of Christ...whatever they were...the result of which was that ANYONE who came along and wanted your wife...or land...was welcome to them...you would give up anything and everything for Jesus...oh...except shekels. All people had to do to get you to deny Jesus and give up on eternal life....was tax you. How`s THAT for strength of conviction? --------------------- |
