In a perfect world religion wouldn't exist. Fredrich Wilhem Nietzsche declared that God was dead, but what good did that do? There was only one perfect Christian, the exemplar himself. You can't kill a belief. If it is false, it will eventually die of itself. In the meantime we are confronted by our own mortality which each of us, believers and unbelievers alike must work out one way or another. I respectfully submit, however, that your argument doesn't hold. The issue isn't one sided, if it was there would be nothing to argue against, so there must be a good side to religion too. As we live, we leave our history behind us, I don't know what the future holds or how all of this will turn out and neither do you. I'm perfectly willing to let you work your side of the street, if you will refrain from lobbing bombs on my side.

: The Founding Fathers and Mothers were chased over because of them...leaving a Europe wracked by murder...in the name of god naturally.

: No sooner did they land here than they went to persecuting each other and it would be years before Catholics would be welcome in the New World.

: The Fundamentalist Revival in America is a political movement...a "Party of God" as much as there is in the Mideast. We too have beaten and killed women, denied girls opportunity to be full human beans...we too have persecuted people for their religious beliefs...we too have subjugated women...but we are farther along the road to civility BECAUSE we kept religion in its place...didn't have an Ulema or a Grand Mufti interfering with civil law and procedure. That's the reason we progressed as much as we did.

: But we're in danger of slipping back...the same intolerance that infects these religiously dominated groups dogs our steps.

: We're on our way to the days of religious wars again. It is indeed Christ vs Muhammad...a replaying of the Crusades...Dumbya even slipped and used that word.

: Throw religion out of civic government...we need a revival of humane and not religious beliefs...the belief that it doesn't matter WHAT god you pray to...or even if you don't...that there are enough laws on the books to have a civil and sane society... without bringing the wrath OR the love of any "lord" into it. This is the beginning of that license to kill all religions cherish above all else...because ultimately that's how they all enforce their "peace".

: Just say "No" to God...better yet...say "HELL NO". The world has yet to recover from the mayhem and bloodshed done in his name the last time around. It isn't that god condones it...it's just that people use god as their final rationale...and it's dangerous, and was proven so before, to have people sanctioning murder in their god's name. They'd all probably kill as many people...but at least they couldn't pretend to be following some "divine" orders...just their own baseness, something that wont change so long as they believe some mad god somewhere told them to do it, even for "His" sake.

: Let us just remain murderers plain and simple...no window dressing about it...let the stench just be the stench of rotting bodies and NOt the burnt offerings to an insane god we invented to provide us with cover.
