Jeff wrote: Of course, I do understand that you have been politically active with sit-ins and protests over the years, but other than what you may have mentioned on this forum or in a handful of e-mails to me, I don't know much more than that. So, that's why my original question (And thought) was...why you? How did he know of you? And why didn't you send your interview to the major news outlets, forcing them to sign something saying that they wouldn't edit it? Or do you, in principle, just not like them? (I, out of principle, refuse to watch any of the ridiculous television stations with the exception of Detroit Public Television and CSPAN I/II)... ....Gary only knew me from Town Hall meetings I had covered for KBSV when there were debates between him and Cardoza, or when he would make public appearances and answer questions from the media. I'd covered those appearances and when the tape was shown on KBSV he had watched and realized nothing had been edited. I presented his words and Cardoza's words in the same manner they spoke them. I do journalism work but not for pay. It's just a community service. He realized that there's no money to be made, or any kind of sensationalism to earn a name for myself, so he trusted me. As for me not trusting the other media, I really don't, and that's why I didn't want them to have it. They were "exclusive" pieces which means he trusted someone to give them an exclusive, so if I have given my word to someone, I'm not going to sell them out for money. I wouldn't do that to ANYONE! My word is more valueable than any artificial price the media could set on those pieces of footage. They saw it as history in the making so they were willing to pay big bucks for it. No one would ever trust me again if I sold them to someone else who could use them in another context. And this could have happened, since he was in the spotlight for two years because of Chandra Levy's investigation, which by the way he was never a real suspect nor charged with anything. It was just pure media speculation and sensationalism. Sex and Murder sells BIG, and that's what the media was after, and I didn't want to contribute to that. --------------------- |
